Ale first started working in a studio when he was 18, as a Recording Assistant at the Fred Plaut Recording Studio at the Yale School of Music, which records music in the various concert halls on campus. What began as a student job quickly developed into an obsession, and with no existing infrastructure to learn more about the recording arts within FPRS, Ale read a textbook and then convinced his boss, Chief Engineer Gene Kimball, to let him start doing more than the job description entailed. Over time, Ale began recording, editing, and mixing the various performances and albums recorded at YSM, ultimately as Managing Recording Engineer.
After learning the fundamentals of sound engineering in the strictly classical environment of concert halls, Ale returned to his hometown of Brooklyn, NY in 2016. There, he began working in more conventional recording studios and learned how to apply his classical training across all genres. Coming from a place of “you have to learn the rules so you can break them,” Ale developed a love for non-traditional, creative recording techniques that was made possible by first learning how to record in a non-interventionist, documentary method. This passion for maximalist, unconventional engineering remains a huge part of his work to this day. During this time, Ale also began producing. The first record he produced was Meridian by Hans Bilger, a project that captures what happens when two 22 year-old friends come together and give one another the space to experiment and come into their own as young artists making their first full-length, professional record. The album eventually came out on Good Child Music in 2019. Since then, Ale has produced various projects across all genres. Recent projects include Revel Acoustic Sessions by Donna Missal and Ija Mia by East of the River.
Ale moved to Los Angeles in 2020, where he currently works as a freelance producer, engineer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist. Much of his current work is as a mix engineer. Recent mixes include the original score for “Karol G: Tomorrow is Beautiful,” a Netflix original documentary that opened as the #1 movie in the US on Netflix. Alongside his longtime collaborator Alice Tolan-Mee, Ale has composed music for various films, podcasts, theater productions, and dance companies. Other frequent collaborators include Angélica Negrón and Ry Ecko. He regularly performs live (guitar/bass/keys/electronics) with several ongoing projects.
